A MARBELLA doctor found with a dead nurse in a hotel room has confessed to injecting her with a powerful anaesthetic before she died, according to reports.
The 66-year-old medic told police he administered several doses of propofol directly into the woman’s jugular while the pair were staying together in a Marbella hotel on Thursday, La Opinion de Malaga reported.
He also claimed the nurse, 56, injected him with the same drug into his right forearm.
The pair allegedly used the drug routinely to help each other fall asleep – but the last time they did, the woman never woke up.
The doctor, who is now under investigation over the woman’s death, later alerted police after waking at around 7pm and finding his colleague unresponsive, according to Spanish reports.
Officers who arrived at the hotel found him waiting outside before he led them to room 113, where the woman was found dead on the bed.
Syringes, used propofol vials and other medication were discovered inside the room.
Both the doctor and nurse worked at Marbella’s Hospital Costa del Sol, where investigators are probing whether the drugs had been taken from the hospital.
The doctor has reportedly admitted taking medication from the hospital, with police investigating the possible theft of propofol and other drugs.
Propofol is a powerful intravenous anaesthetic normally used in hospitals under close medical supervision.
The investigation is now examining whether the drug played a role in the nurse’s death, with the final cause expected to depend on the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests.

The pair are also believed to have had a relationship, with investigators told they had been meeting at the same hotel for around a year.
During previous encounters, they allegedly used drugs including propofol and morphine to help them sleep.
The doctor was arrested following the woman’s death but released provisionally by a Marbella judge on Sunday.
He has been banned from leaving Spain and had his passport confiscated while the investigation continues.
He is being investigated over a possible offence resulting in death, a public health offence and theft, although the exact charges could change as the case develops.
The dead woman’s husband has reportedly insisted the doctor should be behind bars, arguing the circumstances could amount to homicide with eventual intent.
The doctor has not been convicted of any offence and the investigation remains ongoing.
