THE ALMERIA town will celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a day of Disney characters, live music and family activities, culminating in the switching-on of its Christmas lights.

Mojacar is preparing for one of the most eagerly awaited days of the year. On Saturday, November 28, the town will welcome Christmas with a celebration inspired by the Disney universe and its annual light-up ceremony.

The event has become a favourite with families, residents and visitors from around Spain.

For the occasion, the streets will fill with music, fairy-tale characters and festive cheer.

A town transformed into a fantasy world

Throughout the day, Mojacar’s streets will feature decorations and characters inspired by much-loved films and stories. Beauty and the Beast, Marvel, Coco, the Disney princesses, Ratatouille and Mickey Mouse will be among those represented.

Children can take part in workshops, enjoy themed music and entertainment, and bounce on a Disney-inspired bouncy castle. They are also invited to dress as their favourite characters, bringing colour to the streets with costumes inspired by princesses, superheroes and film favourites.

Musical performances will take place throughout the day, helping to create a festive atmosphere for families. Food will also be part of the celebrations, with local restaurants and hospitality venues joined by themed food trucks offering a range of options.

Music heralds the arrival of Christmas

One of the afternoon’s highlights will be a Disney concert performed by the Mojacar Municipal Band, accompanied by professional singers. The show will feature some of the best-known soundtracks from the Disney universe.

The concert will give families a chance to enjoy familiar songs and share stories that have delighted generations. It will also lead into the day’s main event: the official switching-on of Mojacar’s Christmas lights.

The countdown to the Christmas lights

Several local children, selected by lottery, will take to the stage to lead the traditional countdown to the lights being switched on.

The ceremony will mark the start of the festive season in Mojacar. Streets, squares and corners of the town will be illuminated, as the Christmas programme draws visitors and helps establish Mojacar as a winter destination.

Mojacar’s Christmas celebrations took on added significance after the town won the Ferrero Rocher ‘Together We Shine Brighter’ competition in 2022. Since then, the illuminations and decorations have become central to its festive identity, alongside events designed for both first-time visitors and returning guests.

The ceremony on November 28 will mark the beginning of the Christmas season and bring people of different generations together to celebrate. It will also showcase the town’s mix of tradition, entertainment and tourism.

An invitation to experience the magic of Mojacar

The event brings together family activities, music and food in a celebration that offers more than the switching-on of the lights.

Mojacar’s Mediterranean setting, whitewashed streets and mild winter climate provide a backdrop for an open-air celebration. Visitors can also use the occasion to discover the heritage, cuisine and character of one of Andalusia’s best-known towns.

On Saturday, November 28, Mojacar is inviting residents and visitors to set aside the day, get their costumes ready and join the celebrations.

Christmas in Mojacar will begin with a day of Disney-inspired entertainment and end with thousands of lights announcing the start of the festive season.
