ANDALUCIA is to be handed a huge multimillion euro Green boost to aid its soaring unemployment levels.
The Spanish government is to use the region in a trial to see if the country can fight global warming and create jobs at the same time.
The plan, called Andalucia Sostenible (For a Sustainable Andalucia), will test a model of sustainable economic growth based on renewable energy.
It will promote sustainable tourism, respect for the environment, the fight against global warming and information and research technologies.
Wind and solar power production will play a major part, although it remains to be seen whether they will be compatible with environmental ideals.
Although no date or budget has been set for the initiative, it is being greeted with optimism, as unemployment figures here reached nearly 25 per cent.
