TWO teenagers have been arrested for the fire that tore through Javea town in the early hours of the morning.
The fire hit the area, near Benidorm, seeing locals being put up in schools, restaurants and hotels.
Around 20 homes have been destroyed, with the blaze continuing to raze the town to the ground.
Police have closed roads, with three fires taking place in Cumbres de Sol, Granadella and Playa del Arenal, all starting yesterday afternoon and evening.
Thousands of people have evcuated the towns near the fire.
I do not believe that 2 teenagers would first be able to do this, and second would want to do this. A sting!
what i have heard is that they threw petrol bombs riding around on bikes, so yes they were able to do something as catastrophic as this, with the costa blanca being extremely hot and dry it wouldn’t take long for the fire take hold, especially in areas where they targeted are full of pines trees, very dry ones.
So some sick teenagers i’m afraid :(
Teen yet undeveloped brains, propensity for risk taking, influence from places like Benidorm, incompetent parenting, alcohol, drugs….Makes sense to me. Sad.
Near Benidorm? Appalling I hope that they do not see the light of day for many years!
Would there be an insurance payout without a conviction?
It’s not near Benidorm, it’s at least 30 minutes and probably 50klms away.
They don’t say the nationality of the people caught, they don’t actually say anything really, other than near Benidorm, which is not correct.
Have to agree… Bit too far from Benidorm for young idiots riding around on bikes…. But I don’t doubt it was arson!! Such a shame… Have holidayed in Javea for many years… Love it there!! Old town just beautiful! Thoughts and sympathies to those affected…X

The dead vegetation can be ignited from discarded rubbish or even cigarette ash flicked out of a car window
The ‘near Benidorm’ rider is useful for the newspapers in the UK. Ohh, Benidorm, I’ve heard of that!. Javea, a popular **residential** town on the Costa Blanca, is 45 kms away from Benidorm. Much nearer (for those of us who live in Spain) are other popular residential towns like Denia, Calpe, Altea and Moraira.
It’s also of interest that thanks to a law from the Partido Popular, mountain forest land that has been burnt… can be rezoned as urban. Perhaps Javea needs some more noddy housing.
Have just read that the government has declared that no burnt lands can be re zoned , in an effort to stop the reasoning behind some of the fires. So that’s good news.
That is good news, unfortunately Spain has a habit of being economical with the truth when it comes to planning laws. Time will tell.
I lived in benidorm for 15 years and still have a house over there in la nucia, the fire is nowhere near benidorm???? And yes kids could have started the fire as it don’t take much to kick one off in the summer.
Is the fire now under control – I’m traveling to Benissa next week
Obviously no idea where Javea is, a good 45-50 minutes drive from Benidorm, the only correct information here is that there were fires, it was arson, the areas were rezoned within a matter of days to stop developers trying to make a buck out of the tragedy and as yet no convictions.
