A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy has died after his lilo was dragged out to sea by strong currents in southern Spain.

The unnamed child was left a drift on an orange inflatable off Retin beach in Barbate, Cadiz.

According to Europa Press, Guardia Civil noticed the lilo was adrift at 6.40pm.

Beachgoers attempted to swim out to the boy after noticing the inflatable had overturned.

A helicopter and Guardia Civil boat were scrambled to rescue the boy.

Officers got him on board the boat and attempted CPR, but he died before he could be taken to hospital.
