The Olive Press is the leading media organisation dedicated to publishing the latest Spain news in English.
Launched in May 2006, The Olive Press remains Spain’s only English-language newspaper written by professional journalists. Our print editions and online news publications cover breaking stories in places like Andalucia, Gibraltar, the Costa Blanca and more. We also include features from top food, travel and culture writers, as well as opinion pieces from specialist correspondents and well-known expats.
The Expat Survey Consumer Awards (TESCA) named The Olive Press as the #1 expat newspaper in Spain and the 2nd-best expat newspaper in the world in a 2016 survey of 27,000 expats. Rough Guides named us as the best English-language publication in Andalusia between 2012-2024.
The Olive Press team is the go-to contact for UK and international media seeking reliable, on-the-ground updates from Spain. For this reason, you can find us cited as the source for Spain-related news stories in publications like The New York Times, BBC, Sky News, The Daily Mail, The Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post and more
About Our Journalists
Our publisher & editor, Jon Clarke, worked at the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday as an investigative journalist before moving to Spain in 2003. He had a key role in Netflix’s The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann for his experiences as the first international journalist on the scene in Praia de Luz in 2007. He has appeared in numerous documentaries on crime and frequently appears as an analyst on TV news networks from ITV to RTL in Germany. He has authored three books: Costa Killer, Dining Secrets of Andalucia and My Search for Madeleine.
All of our journalists either hold an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism or have worked at UK national newspapers, TV and radio networks.
Thanks to our rigorous reporting, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Google News Initiative selected The Olive Press among all English-language newspapers in Spain to receive a grant as part of the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund. In 2025, one of our reporters won the prestigious NCTJ Media Award for Best Young Journalist.
Over a dozen of our previous journalists are now working in prestigious roles as foreign correspondents or working in organisations such as the Washington Post, ITV News, Netflix, the Daily Mail, The i Paper, The Metro and more.
The Olive Press – News in Numbers
The Olive Press website saw a staggering 1,000% growth online in 2024, with an average of 1 million visits a month.
We also count on nearly 70,000 registered users and nearly 5% of them now pay to subscribe to The Olive Press. This avoids adverts and gets them our daily newsletters and regular weekly mail-outs on property, entertainment, politics and health, plus other member benefits such as exclusive offers and competitions.
Meanwhile, our printed paper’s distribution is well over 100,000 copies a month – and most importantly, unlike many of our rivals, our returns are less than 0.5%. The printed paper has expanded geographically, covering all of the Andalucian region, the Valencia region, as well as the Balearics and Gibraltar, while we have specific and growing sections on Catalunya and Madrid. In 2023, we added a new German edition to cover the Costa Del Sol.
