Not racist, but we’re not renting to foreigners

SPAIN’S prolonged economic crisis has apparently not made the country more racist.

While two-thirds of Spaniards still think immigration is too high, this figure is no higher than last year.

Over half of the respondents, 54 per cent, think immigration is positive for Spain and 65 per cent are against deporting foreigners.

But interestingly for a country so dependent on tourism, only 65 per cent said they would rent their property to a foreigner.

  1. Well I can agree, how many people here in Spain have had terrible experiences, mainly with Ecudorians. I know of four flats owned by British people where Ecudorian renters didn’t pay for more than 6 months and ran up enormous electricity and water bills. They laughed in the owners faces when they tried to evict them.

Another case, which is current, is of an Ecudorian couple renting a bar/restaurant and haven’t paid rent, electric, water, alarm and have received notice to leave months ago. They know that sadly the law is on their side so they are staying put. It is not their property, they haven’t paid, they aren’t wanted there, they don’t have a licence, don’t have insurance even and they are still there selling drinks, swimming in the pool, hosting parties. They have reconnected the electricity with another company (!). They are smug two faced liars and I haven’t found anyone who trusts them in their property.

Did you know that if you have tenants who haven’t paid the rent, that you want to leave but that you have the electricity in your own name, you can’t cut off the electricity or else they can sue you!! You therefore pay for them to live in your own property and the law is on their side…. If you go into your own property and take any item you own out of that property they can call the police who can arrest you for stealing from them. The law is wrong and so many Spanish people know this and sadly too many British people are now finding out.

Warning – Don’t rent to Ecudorians!!!! (ps, sorry if this breaks the below website rules but how can we warn others of these scams if not writing in a public space. Also, what i’ve written is true.)
