Revellers turn Spanish town red for annual tomato festival

REVELLERS have descended on a town in Valencia for the annual La Tomatina festival.

Around 40,000 people turned the streets of Bunol into a sea of red during the world famous tomato fight, which takes place on the last Wednesday of August.

The festival – running for more than half a century – saw 120 tons of tomatoes thrown, with many participants sporting diving goggles.

The town hall is set to review the number of people allowed to take part in the festivities next year.
