ASTONISHING statistics have revealed that Spanish unemployment fell twice as fast as expected in April. Spain's unemployment figures dropped by 100,000 in June,

The plunge of 118,923 far surpasses the predicted drop of 65,000 and confirms that the hiring season has begun.

The government confirmed it is the best figure ever recorded in April, and brings the number of people leaving joblessness over the last year up to 351,285.

There are still more than four million unemployed people in Spain (20% of the population) but the figures suggest a marked recovery with a GDP rise of almost 1% in the first quarter of 2015.
