A MUM has been killed in front of her husband and daughter after being hit by a falling palm tree during a storm.

The 37-year-old was on a family walk in Mallorca, during 80 kilometre-per-hour winds from Storm Amelie.

The gales caused the top section of the tree to break off and hit the Brazilian national, leaving her with multiple injuries.

Before an ambulance arrived, witnesses tried to resuscitate the woman, but she could not be saved and died at the scene.

The woman’s seven-year-old daughter was also hit by some of the tree’s smaller branches, but she is not thought to have been seriously injured.

Local reports said that she and her father had been treated for ‘anxiety’ by medical professionals.

The tragic incident took place at around 12:00pm in the ??Dalt Murada area near the steps of Mallorca Cathedral.

Police have now opened an investigation into the woman’s death.

It comes as the Balearic Islands have been placed on yellow alert by AEMET over Storm Amelie.

The storm has caused seven-metre waves off the Balearic Islands, while in other parts of Spain like La Coruña, gusts of up to 156 kilometre-per-hour have been recorded.

In Andalucia, parts of Granada and Almeria remain on yellow alert until tomorrow.
