Narcos in southern Spain vandalise car of judge investigating the deaths of two police officers

A JUDGE who is investigating the deaths of two Guardia Civil officers found her car had been trashed outside her home in the Costa de la Luz.

María Eulalia Chanfreut, the investigating magistrate who ordered the first arrests in a sensitive case involving a deadly boat collision in Barbate last year, discovered her vehicle with all four tires slashed, paint sprayed aggressively across the body, and the manufacturer’s logo ripped off on the morning of March 8.

The vandalism comes in the wake of Chanfreut’s ongoing investigation into the deaths of Guardia Civil agents Miguel Ángel González and David Pérez.

The two officers were killed on February 9 when they were run down by a larger narco speed boat as they were attempting to chase drug traffickers off who were sheltering from a storm in Barbate harbour.

The judge’s car after it has been targeted by vandals

Judicial sources suggest the attack on Chanfreut’s vehicle could be directly linked to her investigation into the officers’ deaths, which includes examining the potential criminal responsibility of the Guardia Civil commanders who ordered the fatal intervention.

The Judicial Association Francisco de Vitoria has raised alarm about the incident, with spokesperson Sergio Oliva demanding immediate protection for judges and judicial members.

The association is calling for the National Court to assume jurisdiction over drug-trafficking-related crimes, arguing that local judges are being left vulnerable to potential intimidation.

The incident highlights the dangerous undercurrents of criminal investigations along Spain’s southern coastline, where drug trafficking remains a persistent challenge for law enforcement.

The investigation continues, with authorities now looking into the vandalism of Judge Chanfreut’s vehicle.
