BREAKING: Irish ‘drug lord’ Daniel Kinahan arrested in Dubai over ‘links to international organised crime’

THE suspected leader of the feared Kinahan cartel has been snagged by police in Dubai over alleged serious organised crime offences.

Irish national Daniel Kinahan, 48, was detained in the UAE on Wednesday after a warrant for his arrest was issued by Irish courts.

Authorities in Dubai said they received a ‘judicial file’ and ‘immediately launched intensive search and surveillance operations, leading to the suspect’s capture’ within just 48 hours.

They said he was taken into custody over his ‘alleged role in an international organised crime network’.

“Today’s arrest is another extremely important demonstration of the need for international law enforcement co-operation in tackling transnational organised crime,” a statement from Irish police said.

Kinahan, son of notorious drug trafficker Christy, is believed to manage day-to-day operations of a €1 billion drug cartel.

The suspected crime boss was based on the Costa del Sol for years but moved to Dubai after a bloody feud between rival Dublin gangs spilled onto the streets of Spain.

The clash is believed to have begun in 2015 when Gary Hutch, of the Hutch gang, was murdered in Marbella.

In 2016, an attempt was made on Kinahan’s life when gunmen stormed a boxing weigh-in at a Dublin hotel.

Another man, David Byrne, was killed in the shooting.
