Runner hailed a hero after stopping to save life of 70-year-old man having a heart attack on Costa del Sol boardwalk

A DRAMATIC incident unfolded on Friday morning on the seafront promenade in Caleta de Velez, when an elderly man suddenly collapsed in the street.

Witnesses described symptoms consistent with a cardiac arrest. 

According to Malaga Hoy, a runner who happened to be nearby immediately rushed over and began performing CPR while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

The man is believed to have had some form of medical training or previous healthcare experience, with sources saying he continued the resuscitation efforts for several minutes without stopping.

Locals gathered at the scene as more help arrived. An ambulance and local police from Velez-Malaga arrived shortly afterwards. 

Paramedics then took over treatment alongside the runner before managing to stabilise the man at the scene.

He was later transported to hospital for further medical evaluation.

No details about his current condition have yet been released.

The quick response from the witness is believed to have played a crucial role during the first vital moments before paramedics arrived. 

Many people in the area are now calling the anonymous man a hero for saving a life.
