The names of the deceased have not been released and investigations are being executed under a secrecy order.

There was no history of gender violence with autopsies scheduled to be carried out on Monday.

The bodies of the female victim, 51, and the son, 24, were found in separate rooms covered by sheets.

The assailant then went into a corridor where he fatally shot himself in the head.

Dolores mayor, Joaquín Hernandez, said that the three deceased were all ‘well known’ in the town.

The officer moved to the area with his wife in 1996, with their son born in Dolores.

MAYOR HERNANDEZ

“It is very shocking, all the neighbours are stupified and unable to comprehend what happened,” said Hernandez.

Three days of official mourning were decreed by Dolores council.

All theories as to what caused the deaths are being looked at, according to the Government Delegate to the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabe.

“They maintained a conjugal relationship, but a possible line of inquiry is gender violence, “ said Bernabe.

One resident, Bartolome Meroño, told the Informacion newspaper: “Nobody can believe it. He was well-connected in the town as was his son.”

“His wife was down to earth and people really liked her,” Meroño added.
