THE Swedish heir to a burger empire has died from his injuries after a tragic car crash in Mallorca.
Wilhelm Bergfors, 27, had been admitted to Son Espases Hospital after crashing his classic Porsche into a wall while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle on April 19, according to reports. He died in hospital on Tuesday.
Two other passengers – a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman – were also injured in the smash, with the woman said to have suffered serious injuries.
Wilhelm, the youngest son of Max Burgers founder Curt Bergfors, had joined the family business in September 2022, just months after his father’s death in May.
Mohammed Liban, operations manager at Max’s Kungsgatan restaurant in central Stockholm, said Wilhelm was ‘deeply loved by staff.’
“You could call him in the middle of the night if you needed help, and his answer was always, ‘I’ll be there right away,’” he told Swedish outlet Expressen.
Wilhelm managed the Kungsgatan restaurant, while his older brothers Richard and Christoffer helped lead the company as working chairman and deputy CEO.
Founded in 1968, Max Burgers has grown into one of Scandinavia’s biggest fast-food chains, operating around 200 restaurants across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Poland.
