The pontiff will visit Spain next month when the two men will meet again.
Wednesday’s talks- according to the Holy See- took place in the context of good bilateral relations and anticipation of the Pope’s trip to Spain.

Sanchez and the Pope stressed the importance of fostering a ‘fruitful dialogue’ between the local Church and governments, as well as between the various components of civil society.
A Vatican statement said that several international issues were addressed.
That included ‘the repercussions of conflicts around the world, migration, the importance of multilateralism and respect for international law, as well as the urgent need for a constant commitment in support of peace’.
Talks emphasised challenges such as migration and global governance.
Pedro Sanchez then met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
The two officials described the Pope’s visit to Spain as ‘sign of the good relations’ between the Holy See and Spain.
Pope Leo will next month address parliamentarians in Congress and say Mass at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
