NINE OUT OF 11 drivers stopped for roadside drug testing in Fuengirola last weekend have tested positive.

It makes for a remarkable 82% positive rate — among the most striking enforcement figures seen on the Costa del Sol this year.

The statistics were released by the Policia Local alongside details of a broader weekend operation targeting road safety, traffic violations and public drinking.

Officers ran 54 breathalyser tests during the same operation, but only two returned a positive result.

Forty-four separate traffic fines were issued covering mobile phone use at the wheel, failure to wear a seatbelt, expired or missing ITV roadworthiness certificates, no mandatory insurance and documentation offences.

Three vehicles were seized for administrative and road safety violations.

Officers also fined 15 users of Vehiculos de Movilidad Personal (VMP) — electric scooters and similar micro-mobility devices — for failing to register their vehicles as required under Spanish law.

Beyond the roads, anti-botellon operations targeted outdoor drinking sessions across the town, with 40 fines issued in beach areas and public spaces.
