The incident happened at around 11pm on Saturday.

The Brit boarded a black Ford Mondeo in Puerto Banus and within a few moments of the journey beginning, he started to behave erratically.

He screamed loudly according to Diario Sur and tried to open a door to throw himself out of the moving car.

The driver made sure the doors were locked and headed off to the Costa del Sol hospital.

On arrival, the driver quickly got out to ask for help from hospital security staff.

The Brit then climbed into the driver’s seat, started the car and drove off.

But his adventure barely lasted a few seconds as he promptly lost control of the Ford Mondeo.

The vehicle went onto the central reservation barrier separating the two lanes of the road.

The front left wheel came off and the car ended up straddled across the highway.

Hospital security staff detained the man before the arrival of the Policia Nacional and Policia Local.

Alcohol and drug tests were carried out on the Brit, who needed hospital treatment.

He suffered a wound to his head, and was admitted to the facility under the watchful eye of the police.
