Appeal to help home over 100 Yorkshire Terriers on the Costa Blanca after they are discovered in tiny house in remote Alicante village

THE Mayor of a remote Costa Blanca village has appealed for help to rehome 116 dogs found crammed into a tiny house.

Authorities discovered the dogs, most of them Yorkshire Terriers, packed into a house of just 70 square metres under the care of a 50-year-old woman described by authorities as vulnerable.

Many of the dogs were confined to small cages.

The woman had begun a breeding operation but the situation quickly escalated and the woman was unable to properly care for the dogs.

Ruben Pico, the mayor of Confrides, a rural village inland from Benidorm with only 300 inhabitants, has called on the Valencian government and council to help care for the dogs.

Pico says that Confrides lacks the vets and police officers to handle the situation effectively and has urged the regional authorities to help.

He said: “This situation is causing the animals to suffer, and we are asking the Provincial Council and the Generalitat to help us find a solution.”

Pico added that the town urgently needs a system to contact individuals and animal welfare groups willing to take in the dogs, while also providing support for the woman.

If you are able to help, call the Ayuntamiento de Confrides on +34 965 88 58 04
