England had taken control of the match when Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the 55th minute, giving the team a crucial advantage.

After manager Thomas Tuchel switched to a back five, however, Argentina began to dominate possession and pile pressure on the English defence.

The equaliser arrived in the 84th minute when Enzo Fernandez converted Lionel Messi’s assist, lifting a clever finish over goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Less than 10 minutes later, Lautaro Martínez headed the ball into the net to complete Argentina’s stunning 2-1 comeback, breaking the hearts of millions of England supporters around the world.
