A BRITISH tourist died after being hospitalised for nine months due to the sudden collapse of a balcony in Lanzarote, an inquest has heard.
The victim, Nicholas Thomas, together with his friend Darren Silcox, fell from a height of six metres at a resort in the popular Spanish holiday hotspot.
The incident took place on October 25 last year at around 1.30 am.
Silcox died about three hours later, while Thomas was left critically injured as his family was warned that he might never recover.
He sadly died on July 10.

The victims, aged 56 and 54 respectively, were from Cwmbran in Wales.
They had been enjoying a night out and, upon their return, a wooden handrail along a balcony collapsed and caused them to fall.
Both Spanish and Welsh investigators are working to clarify whether they were leaning or standing next to this structure.
Experts also need to establish why the structure failed, and they are studying maintenance and safety measures of the building to give further explanation about the incident.
The apartments, called Galeon Playa, are located in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote’s third largest tourist resort which is known for its beaches and nightlife.
The tragedy left tourists and locals in shock and highlighted concerns about building safety standards of accommodation on the island.
