FOR millions of people, August means one thing: holiday mode.
As beaches, city breaks and countryside escapes fill social media feeds, many travellers will be reaching for their phones to document every moment of their getaway.
But according to leading Spanish newspaper El Pais, there are some holiday snaps that have become so overdone they are now little more than cliches.
From beach feet selfies to perfectly plated meals, the publication has rounded up the five holiday photos it believes are best left off your Instagram this summer.
Food photos
A beautifully presented meal has long been one of social media’s favourite subjects.
But El Pais argues there is little left to say with yet another restaurant snap, whether the plate is full to the brim or completely empty.

Unless the picture is genuinely striking, the newspaper suggests giving it a miss.
Scenic views
Rather than trying to capture an entire landscape or landmark, the newspaper recommends focusing on one or two standout details.
A simple composition, they say, is often more striking than a cluttered wide shot.
Feet in the sand
The classic photo of your feet by the sea has become one of social media’s biggest icks.
El Pais argues it no longer says anything interesting and has lost any originality – a must avoid.
Group pictures
Holiday group shots are understandable, but they rarely tell a story.
Instead of everyone standing and smiling, El Pais says the best photos capture a genuine moment.
Cryptic close-ups
Blurry dancefloors, mysterious lighting and abstract close-ups may look artistic, but the newspaper says they can quickly become repetitive.
In moderation they work, but overdoing them risks making your feed feel all too predictable.
