Why this Barcelona international school is sending students to the world’s top universities

A leading Barcelona international school has opened admissions for the 2026–27 academic year after celebrating another strong set of exam results, with students securing places at some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Following the publication of the University Entrance Examination (PAU) and International Baccalaureate (IB) results, students from Hamelin-Laie International School Barcelona have confirmed their admission to universities such as University College London, University of Edinburgh, Cornell University, University of Amsterdam, Copenhagen Business School, ESADE, IE University, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and the University of Navarra.

This achievement reflects an educational model focused not only on academic performance, but also on preparing students to thrive in an increasingly globalized world.

The 75 students who sat for the International Baccalaureate achieved an average score of 31.0 points out of 45 – above the program’s global average – with a top score of 43 out of 45.

In the Spanish University Entrance Examinations (PAU), students achieved an average admission score of 11.01 out of 14, with several students excelling in specific subjects, including a perfect 10 in Philosophy.

“It has been a real pleasure to see our students’ hard work and dedication rewarded with another set of excellent academic results this year,” stated Fraser Halliwell, Head of Secondary at Hamelin-Laie International School.

“The numbers speak for themselves. These results have allowed our students to secure places at leading universities across Catalonia, Spain, and around the world.”

Beyond Exams

Beyond the academic results, which showcase the high quality of teaching, the school’s model is defined by personalized guidance and individual support, particularly during Secondary education. As a result, students graduate with the confidence and skills required to successfully navigate the next stage of their education.

At Hamelin-Laie, students thrive thanks to a personalized education with a genuinely global outlook rooted in local essence. The school brings together over 55 nationalities, representing 50% of the school community. For this reason, continuous effort is dedicated to ensuring that every student and family feels understood and supported.

This vision goes far beyond academic excellence. The school aims to create an environment where students can grow as individuals, discover their potential, and prepare to succeed in an interconnected world.

An example of how Hamelin-Laie International School delivers strong academic results while preparing students for life is its collaborative programs with world-renowned institutions.

Institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Juilliard School, UNICEF, and the IMG Academy.

These programs give students hands-on experience with professionals, educators, and researchers from these organizations.

As part of these initiatives, a group of students recently took part in the Nord Anglia Education Student Summit – an international event hosted alongside UNICEF in Houston.

Teacher Marc Oliana also recently returned from the MIT Professional Development Week in Boston. Through these opportunities, students experience university life firsthand and explore higher-level academics.

“I am very grateful to have this available at Hamelin-Laie. My classmates and I are making the most of all the opportunities the school offers us,” says Matvii Smiekho, a graduate of Hamelin-Laie International School.

“I can say that my confidence is at an all-time high, thanks to the incredible support network around me. Due to the guidance from our teachers, I feel I am prepared not only for successful university admission but also for the professional opportunities that lie ahead.”
