Quirónsalud Marbella becomes first private hospital in city to win ‘Optimal’ quality certification

Quironsalud Hospital in Marbella

QUIRÓNSALUD Marbella Hospital has been awarded the ‘Optimal’ level of Quality Certification by the Andalusian Healthcare Quality Agency (ACSA), becoming the first private hospital in Marbella to achieve this recognition.

The hospital has successfully completed the assessment process, meeting 85 per cent of the standards set by the ACSA, as set out in the current Manual of Standards for Hospitals.

This result places Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital as the second private hospital on the Costa del Sol with the highest percentage of compliance with standards under the ACSA model, second only to Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital.

The certification, issued by the Andalusian Healthcare Quality Agency, a body forming part of the Progreso y Salud Foundation, recognises compliance with the standards set for hospitals and the organisation’s commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement and patient-centred care.

The hospital certification programme comprises three progressive levels: Advanced, Optimal and Excellent.

A track record backed by quality certifications

The award of ACSA certification comes on top of the five valid ISO and UNE certifications currently held by Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital, which attest to various aspects of the centre’s management and operations.

These include ISO 9001, relating to quality management systems; ISO 50001, focusing on energy management; ISO 14001, relating to environmental management; UNE 179006, on infection control; and UNE 179003, relating to patient safety.

A model focused on hospital quality and continuous improvement

The ACSA certification programme assesses various areas relating to the operations of hospitals.

The current manual, aimed at both private hospitals and regional, specialist, and short- and medium-stay hospitals, comprises 100 standards, grouped into three main categories: hospital management, patient-centred care and a culture of safety.

Within these areas, the assessment covers aspects relating to leadership and organisation, healthcare professionals and process-based management; patients’ rights, continuity of care and scientific and technical quality; as well as best practice, risk management and the creation of a safe environment for patients and healthcare professionals.

The certification process also serves as an assessment and improvement tool, enabling organisations to identify strengths and areas for improvement, review their processes and implement measures aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of healthcare.

The certificate awarded to Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital attests that the centre complies with the standards set out in the Manual of Standards for Hospitals in relation to its portfolio of hospital care services.

Recognition of the professionals’ work

Achieving this certification is the result of the joint efforts of the professionals at Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital and the various departments involved in the centre’s clinical and organisational activities.

For Alejandro Rodríguez, Director of Nursing at Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital, the certification represents recognition of the efforts made by the centre’s staff and the work carried out to drive continuous improvement:

“Achieving the ACSA ‘Optimal’ level certification is a significant recognition of the work our staff carry out every day“.

For her part, the hospital’s Head of Quality, Laura Sánchez, noted that “the assessment process has enabled us to review and highlight many of the procedures that form part of our work and, at the same time, to identify new opportunities for improvement. Achieving this level of certification spurs us on to continue working to provide healthcare based on quality, safety and continuous improvement. This recognition also provides fresh impetus to continue advancing our commitment to excellence in care and to providing care that is increasingly focused on the needs of our patients”.
