THREE people have been arrested after attempting to extract €1.5 million worth of cocaine from an Algeciras container ship using dock worker disguises and a stolen jet ski.
The suspects were intercepted by a joint Guardia Civil and Customs Surveillance operation at the major Cadiz port.
Officers from the Risk Analysis Unit (ULAR) swooped after spotting a suspicious jet ski near a moored vessel during cargo operations.
Two of the men, wearing clothing similar to legitimate stevedores to avoid detection, managed to board the ship and extract two backpacks from a maritime container.
They attempted to ditch the bags after spotting the approaching police dragnet but were quickly apprehended.
Inside the backpacks, officers discovered 50 individually wrapped packages containing exactly 50 kilos of cocaine.
Meanwhile, a Guardia Civil maritime patrol intercepted the third suspect, who was waiting on the watercraft used to infiltrate the terminal.
Checks revealed the jet ski had been stolen just hours earlier in La Linea de la Concepcion, the border town next to Gibraltar.
All three men have been remanded in prison by a judge on drug trafficking charges.
