Belated Andorran windfall for Estepona
March 5, 2010 • Andalucia, Lead2, Malaga • 0 Comments
A HORDE of money belonging to Estepona town hall has been found stashed in an Andorran bank account.
Despite lacking money to buy toilet paper for schools or maintain its fleet of fire engines, ten million euros were uncovered by the National Police.
The funds allegedly belong to former director of town planning Pedro Lopez, who left his post in 2007.
They were hidden away under Lopez’s family name.
National Police revealed that the money came from constructors who paid “commissions” to the town hall in order to receive building licenses.
Meanwhile, Lopez appeared before magistrates in Estepona to speak of his alleged involvement in the Astapa corruption scandal.
