Family fun on the Costa del Sol as new splash park opens in Mijas with water jets, tipping buckets, mini slides, and a ‘Riversense’ area

A NEW splash park has opened its doors in Mijas to offer families a way to cool down during the Costa del Sol summer.

The 430-square-metre aquatic play area, which is roughly the size of a basketball court, boasts 41 interactive water elements designed to keep children entertained.

Visitors can expect water jets, tipping buckets, mini slides and a sensory zone dubbed ‘Riversense’ to stimulate exploration.

The Gran Parque attraction operates daily from 10am to 10pm and is split into three strictly enforced age zones to ensure safety.

Toddlers aged between one and three have their own dedicated baby area, while older groups are separated into a kids zone for four to nine-year-olds and a teen section for 10 and 11-year-olds.

Safety and hygiene measures have been prioritised, with the council confirming the site has passed all mandatory health and PH checks.

The entire circuit operates on a closed loop, meaning all the water is continuously recycled, while the ground features a special anti-slip surface.

“This space offers an outdoor leisure alternative that combines thermal comfort, physical activity and socialisation,” the councillor for parks and gardens, Daniel Gomez, said.

Parents must adhere to a strict set of rules to keep the facility running smoothly.

Babies are required to wear swim nappies, and all children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

The local council has also explicitly banned the use of balloons, balls, bicycles and vehicles inside the splash zone.

With a maximum capacity of 65 children at any one time, the park is expected to be highly popular among expat residents and holidaymakers.

It is the second water feature of its kind to launch in the municipality this month, following the opening of a similar park in Las Cañadas just days prior.
