A TORREMOLINOS beach has earned an ‘excellent’ water quality rating just months after a sewage pipe burst and sent human waste pouring into the sea.
Los Alamos beach in Torremolinos has received an ‘excellent’ water quality rating, the highest rating possible under EU standards, following an analysis by researchers from the University of Malaga.

The beach also earned the Blue Flag distinction, recognising its environmental quality and sustainability.
It comes just two months after Los Alamos beach was closed to swimmers after sewage flooded into the sea.
Los Alamos beach was forced to close to bathers in April after flooding of the Guadalhorce river caused sewage pipes to rupture and spill sewage into the sea.
The beach reopened to swimmers on 22 May and has since bounced back with an ‘excellent’ water quality rating.
Los Alamos isn’t the only Costa del Sol beach to face a sewage mishap ahead of the summer season.
Levante beach in La Linea de Concepcion, on the Gibraltar border, was closed to swimmers earlier this month, after raw sewage poured into the sea.
A broken pipe on the Spanish side of the border was responsible for the spill.
