Speed cameras fitted at Costa del Sol blackspot

La Cala Bend

SPEED cameras are to be installed on one of the coast’s deadliest blackspots.

After years of appeal from local residents, cameras will finally be installed on the A-7’s sharp bend in La Cala de Mijas.

Trafico officers hope the cameras will reduce accidents at the spot which once saw 15 crashes in just one week.

Police will not issue fines in the first few days after installation, however, but will instead hand out warnings to those caught speeding.

  1. Very good to know. We’ll be sure to let all of our guests at Spanish Vacation Rental know, so they don’t end up with tickets. Having seen a deadly crash there myself just last year I think these cameras are a great idea.

  2. Not sure if it’s a great thing – previously under normal driving conditions it was like 1st lane for “normal” drivers, 2nd lane for those in a hurry. Now it looks really bad – someone is driving 75 and someone goes ~80, so the second guy will start overtaking that takes ages. Meanwhile, you have other people whooshing over 100 that will try pass everyone with little to no luck. All in all it creates a lot of tension and anger amongst drivers.
