SUNTANS, vitamin D and increased energy are well-known and well-loved benefits of warmer climates.

But there are less desirable side effects that health experts are keen to remind the public of in the hotter summer months.

Be on your guard for apathy, crankiness, bad moods, and even mental health problems, say scientists at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

“Moderate heat gets your mood up and gets you out more but past a certain level it can make your body shut down,” said doctor Valentin Martinez-Otero.
