London police stand down after finding ‘no trace’ of reported gunshots or suspects

LONDON police have stood down in Oxford Circus saying they have found ‘no trace’ of gunshots or suspects.

It comes after hundreds of shoppers fled after reports of a gunfire and armed cops reacted as if it was terror related.

Metropolitan Police said: “We received a numerous 999 calls reporting shots fired in a number of locations on Oxford Street and at Oxford Circus tube station.

“Given the nature of the information received we responded as if the incident was terrorism, including the deployment of armed officers.”

It added that additional officers would be remaining in the West End to reassure the public.
