A CAT that had a FISH HOOK stuck in its mouth has been caught and saved from agony.

The stray was spotted by the port in Javea with the hook embedded and a ‘rubber fake fish’ dangling from the flesh wound.

The cat was treated by vet Antonia from Assis Veterinaria in Javea without charge.

SAVED: The wound had become ‘severely infected’

“He had a massive infection, wound and lots of pain from the rubbing of the rubber and metal on his mouth,” Asociacion Catland founder Claire Wall told the Olive Press.

“He has been treated with antibiotics, dewormed and deflead.”

Wall said she caught the cat alongside Marissa Lester after spotting it ‘five days previously’.

She praised Elizabeth and Peter Trafford from Javea Feral Cats, who tried unsuccessfully to catch the feline.

The Asociacion Catland is currently raising funds to become the first cattery in Javea to care for and rehome cats after they are caught and sterilised from the town’s ‘around 35’ stray colonies.
