Hail, thunder and rain hit Spain’s Costa del Sol as AEMET announces alerts for rain and strong winds

Unstable weather conditions are forecast across the Iberian Peninsula with yellow storm warnings in place for some areas.

A HAILSTORM has surprised drivers on the Ronda road today.

The route, which connects the historic city to the Costa del Sol, became covered in hail as a gota fria continued to affect the eastern and southern peninsula.

Malaga city also saw hail fall at around 2.30pm in the La Rosaleda area, accompanied by intense thunder and rain.

Similar weather was experienced in La Malagueta, Cartama and Campanillas.

Rain continued throughout the day with pockets of sunshine.

The Axarquia, however, has been placed on yellow alert until 10pm tonight due to heavy rainfall.

Malaga province is set to have more rain tomorrow, with a 70% chance between 12pm and 6pm.

Temperatures in the capital will be as low as 13C with highs of 19C.

There is also a yellow alert for strong winds along the Costa del Sol and Axarquia tomorrow.
