A YOUNG man has been arrested over the killing of a barber who was knifed to death in a bar brawl.
Abdessamad Elammali, 21, died early this morning in Estepona Port after being stabbed in the neck.
The two men had reportedly argued in a bar before they met again outside at around 3:30pm and Elammali was stabbed.
The pair had been partying in popular nightlife spot, Mykonos Music Club.
Elammali, a Manilva FC footballer, could not be saved and is thought to have died from his injuries at the scene.
He died just off Avenida Luis Braille, the town’s main club strip, popular with locals, expats and tourists.
The detainee, a 22-year-old Brazilian attempted to flee the scene, but an off-duty Gibraltar Regiment soldier apprehended him until police arrived and made their arrest.
He is currently being held at Estepona Police Station and the Policia Nacional has launched an investigation.
Mayor of Manilva, Mario Jimenez, has led tributes to Elammali, who is a resident of Sabinillas, where he worked.
He said: “The town hall deeply regrets the tragic death of the young neighbor of our town, Abdessamad Elammali.
“To your family and friends we offer our condolences, with the maximum support and affection in these difficult moments.
“From The Town Hall of Manilva we condemn any kind of violent action.”
Meanwhile, a source from Sabinillas’ Muslim and Moroccan community said: “He was a young worker and very sociable, it is a very deep loss.”
Another described Elammali as a ‘a very quiet young man who was never in trouble’.
