THE President of the Government of the Balearic Islands has been accused of flouting the coronavirus restrictions.
It is alleged that Francina Armengol was found at Hat Bar in Palma de Mallorca just after 2am on October 7th.
This would be a clear breach of the restrictions enforced by Armegol’s very own government who implicitly state that nightlife venues must close at 1am.
The allegation, voiced by the Balearic People’s Party (PP) leader Biel Company, is that Armengol was drinking in the bar with eight other people after hours.
The Policia Local had raided the venue after several local residents complained about the establishment being open when it should not have been.
When the owner was questioned by officers he said that he only kept the bar open because the President was one of his customers.
According to several witnesses, Armengol was inside the premises at the time police arrived.
Ultima Hora has also published the Policia Local report where the owner of the bar states that Armengol was present.
Armengol is yet to comment on the allegations.
It comes just days after the Balearic government toughened up their restrictions to halt the spread of coronavirus.
On Monday, it was announced that social gatherings would be reduced from ten people to six in Ibiza and Mallorca.
Explaining the new measure at a press conference, Armengol said the restriction was put in place as social gatherings have been ‘proven to be the main source of infections’.
