BREAKING: Spain’s Valencia region to close its external borders to fight coronavirus

Breaking

THE Valencia region has joined the majority of Spain in declaring it will close its borders on Friday in a bid slow the spread of coronavirus.

The eastern autonomous community, home to the Costa Blanca and Benidorm, will shut its outer perimeter from noon tomorrow.

The announcement was made by president Ximo Puig in a joint appearance with regional health minister Ana Barcelo.

“We cannot wait any longer to save lives,” said Puig.

Puig specified that it will not be possible to enter or leave the region from 12pm Friday save for exceptional circumstances.

These are expected to relate to travelling for work, medical, legal reasons and few others.

Residents will be able to travel within the region except for areas with additional restrictions in place due to their higher incidence of the virus.
