According to a press release issued by the Guardia Civil, the cause of the accident, which occurred on October 27, was due to the fact that one of the drivers, a British national, 55, from Devon, was driving on the wrong side of the road.

The man had arrived in Cordoba for work reasons and, out of habit, drove his rental vehicle in the wrong lane, causing the head-on collision.

According to Guardia Civil sources, the rental car was Spanish made, and therefore had the steering wheel positioned on the left, which should have alerted the British citizen.

Both drivers gave a negative result in an alcohol test, however the Guardia Civil has denounced the Briton for ‘driving on the left in a two-way street in the opposite direction to the stipulated one.’

The British driver now faces a fine and losing six points from his licence.
