OPENING hours of supermarkets across Spain can vary a lot during Easter weekend.
If you still need to pop out to the shops, these are the opening hours you need to bear in mind.
MERCADONA
Most will turn to Spain’s leading supermarket, but unlike other stores, closing hours are strict and always the same.
All Mercadona stores are closed on Sundays and public holidays, meaning that they will keep their doors shut on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and even Easter Monday in some areas (Valencia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands).
On Holy Saturday, most Mercadonas will be open from 9am to 9:30pm. Expect queues if you go, because Saturday morning tends to be peak time at these stores.

CARREFOUR
Carrefour might be your safest option, as most of their stores are open every Sunday and on all public holidays.
Opening hours may vary, so it’s best to check on the website, but most are open on regular hours from 9am till 10pm.
Most larger stores stay open throughout the entire Semana Santa, where local laws allow it – and in busy areas or tourist zones some stores stay open even longer.Â
LIDL AND ALDI
For Lidl it’s a bit more tricky. Opening hours depend on the region and local stores. In Catalunya all stores are closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Monday.
In Malaga and Marbella, a lot are open until 9:30pm, but it’s best to check on the Lidl website to see if your local store is open this weekend.
The same goes for Aldi. They keep most of their stores open on public holidays with regular hours from 9am till 9:30pm.
They do recommend you to check the local opening hours for each store, as they may vary in different regions.

DIA
For DIA, the opening hours are also not uniform, so checking their website and local opening hours is the safest.
Their usual opening hours are from 9am till 9pm.
Public holidays are different in all regions of Spain, resulting in confusing opening hours for stores.
Good Friday is a nationwide holiday, but Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday depend on the region.
Your safest option is to plan ahead and check the opening hours for each store on their website, so you don’t have to go home empty handed.
