Fresh ‘blood rain’ alert for Malaga as spring storms trigger yellow weather alert

'Don't wash your car!': Blood rain warning for Spain as Saharan dust cloud to blow in from Africa - affecting Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca

RESIDENTS across the Costa del Sol should hold off on cleaning their terraces as another band of ‘blood rain’ prepares to dump a gloopy layer of mud across the region.

The rare weather phenomenon is being driven by the arrival of a plume of Saharan dust, which is forecast to collide with an incoming DANA (isolated high-pressure system) on Friday.

State weather agency Aemet have issued a yellow alert for rainfall for much of Andalucia, including Almeria, Axarquia, Malaga, Cordoba and Jaen.

Storms are also forecast to batter the Costa de Luz further west.

According to meteorologists, up to 15mm of rain could fall in just one hour, with the warning in place in some parts until Saturday morning.

The rain is likely to be accompanied by fierce thunderstorms, including lightning.

Further north, yellow alerts are also in place from Madrid to Burgos, stretching from the Portuguese border in the west to Guadalajara in the east.
