Marbella launches 24-hour ‘street-wash blitz’ to scrub away city’s ‘dirty’ image ahead of summer rush

MARBELLA has launched a ‘street-wash blitz’ to clean up the city’s streets ahead of the summer season.

Over 200 street cleaning teams will take to the city’s streets 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday.

It follows criticism of the council from local business owners and politicians in summer 2025 over rubbish piling up at recycling stations in Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara which was said to be tarnishing the luxury resort’s image.

The new round-the-clock street cleaning covers Marbella, San Pedro de Alcantara, Nueva Andalucia and Las Chapas while the work will be split into morning, afternoon and night shifts to minimise traffic disruption during rush hour.

Cleaning efforts will ramp up in June, July and August, the council says, as the city experiences an influx of tourists.

Equipped with specialist cleaning equipment and hoses, which the council says are capable of removing ‘all dirt and stains’, the new cleaning programme aims to ensure Marbella is not once again branded as ‘dirty’ this summer.
