Outrage as new beach picnic area in Marbella’s San Pedro is left covered in trash with bins ‘just metres away’

FURIOUS residents have slammed May Day revellers after a new beach picnic area in Marbella was left strewn with rubbish.

Photos circulating on social media show benches and barbecue spots at La Salida beach, in San Pedro Alcantara, covered in plastic bags, crushed beer cans, and half-empty bottles and cups on Sunday afternoon.

The shocking scenes come despite the area being equipped with bins just a few metres away, sparking outrage among locals over what they described as ‘infuriating’ littering.

Local resident Pepi Mancera said: “We are pigs by nature. Fine, go and have fun if you want, but pick up after yourself.”

Another resident, Ana Sanchez, wrote on Facebook: “Dogs are banned from going to the beach, but they’re more well-behaved than humans.”

The picnic area, which opened earlier this year, features brightly painted sand-filled boats designed as designated barbecue zones.

Since May 4, individual spots can be booked via Marbella Town Hall’s website, with residents now urging authorities to tighten enforcement and punish offenders.

“It’s a shame how little civic responsibility there is, but the council has to find a solution,” said local Angel Cornejo Marchante.

“It’s as simple as checking the boats, verifying permits, and fining anyone without one on the spot. Then at the end of the night, inspect the area and fine whoever left their space dirty.”
