SPAIN’S State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has downgraded the extreme heat warning for the Costa del Sol from orange to yellow as temperatures finally begin to ease.
The alert covers the Sol and Guadalhorce regions and will remain active between 1pm and 8.59pm today.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 36C along the coast, fuelled by the notorious local terral wind.
It marks a slight reprieve for residents and tourists after several days of punishing heat under an orange advisory.
Across the wider Andalucia region, thermometers are dropping on the eastern Mediterranean coast but rising slightly inland.
Malaga, Cordoba and Granada will remain the hottest provinces today, with highs peaking at 37C.
Skies will stay mostly clear throughout the day, with some light cloud cover developing over the northeastern mountain ranges this afternoon.
A light westerly wind will bring moderate gusts to the coastline before dropping off, while a stronger poniente wind is forecast for the Strait of Gibraltar.
Authorities are continuing to urge the public to take precautions despite the downgraded alert.
