Only two Spanish beaches make it into the 50 best in the world in prestigious new travel ranking

ONLY two Spanish beaches have made it onto the 50 best in the world in a prestigious new travel ranking.

The World’s 50 Best Beaches list is compiled annually by over 1,000 travel experts and this year featured just two spots on Spain’s coastline.

The first of the pair is Balearic icon Cala Macarella beach which is known for its white sand and clear seas.

Cala Macarella beach is known for its natural beauty.

Surrounded by cliffs the beach has limited access and no sunbeds or umbrella rentals to preserve its natural beauty.

In summer vehicle access to this section of the coast is restricted meaning visitors must take a local bus and then walk down a scenic path for 20 minutes before they get to the sea front.

In the off-season, however, you can drive closer to the beach and leave your car in a designated parking area.

The second, and final, Spanish beach to make the list is the Cofete coast line in Fuerteventura.

In one of the most wild parts of the Canary Islands this enclave offers over 12km of golden sand and high waves.

With strong tides it is not the best place to swim but it is perfect for those looking to relax and take in the natural beauty.

High waves are expected at Cofete beach.

Behind the shore are dark volcanic mountains with the beach itself being reached via a rough dirt road.

Most of the beaches that made the list are located between Asia and the Pacific with the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, the Maldives and Cambodia being highlighted.

Fiji and French Polynesia also established themselves as having beautiful beaches, as did the Caribbean.
