Filming of new Russell Crowe movie halted in Catalunya after crew fail to comply with regulations to halt spread of African swine fever

THE Catalan government has ordered work to stop on a Hollywood blockbuster movie starring Russell Crowe because the production company has not followed safety procedures in regard to swine fever.

‘The Last Druid’ directed by William Eubank and starring New Zealander Crowe and Australian actor Rose Leslie, was being filmed at the old Can Sant Joan golf course.

It is a publicly owned space in Sant Cugat del Valles where a Celtic village had been recreated for the film.

SWINE FEVER FEARS

The department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food sent the ‘pause’ order to the producers.

There had been ongoing controversy with the film being shot in the Collserolar mountain range which had been closed off to the public to prevent the spread of African swine fever.

Permission had been granted for the shoot in February.

Residents and the Sant Cugat City Council have complained about double standards as production teams have been able to operate there to set up sets, while locals were barred entry.

Authorities detected irregularities in the perimeter closure and in the application of the compulsory biosecurity measures.

Because of the transgressions, the Department of Agriculture issued a an order to suspend filming temporarily until strict compliance with current health laws is guaranteed.

The Natural Park of Serra de Collserola has been closed since March due to the outbreak of African swine fever.

It is not expected to reopen soon and restrictions are expected to be maintained during the summer.
