A BRITISH tourist has died in tragic circumstances after an accident while unwinding with pals on a Costa Blanca beach.
The 25-year-old is understood to have suffered a suspected cardiac arrest after smashing into rocks while swimming off Percheles Beach, near Mazarron in Murcia just after 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Paramedics rushed to the scene after two British friends tried to pull the victim out of the water.
Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We received several emergency calls around 4.05pm yesterday afternoon reporting difficulties in getting a swimmer out of the water at Percheles Beach in Canada de Gallego, part of the municipality of Mazarron,” a spokesperson for the regional government said.

“According to the callers, two young English men reported that their companion had struck the rocks and was unconscious in the water.
“The Guardia Civil, Mazarron Policia Local, Mazarron Civil Protection, firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium and an ambulance from the 061 Emergency and Urgent Healthcare Service were immediately notified and dispatched to the scene.
“Shortly afterwards, the Guard Civil reported that several people had managed to remove the unconscious swimmer from the water.”
An autopsy will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
