AT least two people have been killed and dozens injured after a fire broke out at an apartment in Magaluf, a popular holiday destination visited by hundreds of thousands of Brits every year.
A third person was rushed to Son Espases Hospital in the Mallorcan capital of Palma in a serious condition.
Firefighters were called to Carrer Martin Ros Gracia at around 5am on Thursday morning after a ‘very violent’ blaze broke out on the third floor of the Trianon apartment building.
Officers from the Guardia Civil and Calvia Policia Local were also dispatched to the scene.
“At first it appeared to be a minor fire, but it has turned out to be extremely serious with a very intense blaze that started on the third floor of a nine-storey building,” said Juan Antonio Amengual, the mayor of Calvia.
“We are devastated and deeply saddened. The two deaths have been confirmed and there is a third person in a critical condition at Son Espases Hospital.”
According to Calvia Town Council, residents attempted to extinguish the flames themselves but failed, which caused the fire to spread rapidly to the rest of the building.
A total of 24 people are understood to be injured following the inferno – including eight firefighters.

Many of those are believed to have suffered from smoke inhalation.
Crew members from Mallorca’s fire service have successfully extinguished the flames but are urging residents to remain confined within their flats as a precautionary measure.
“Following with concern the reports about the fire in a building in Magaluf, where two people have lost their lives and where 24 more people have been affected, including the firefighters who intervened,” posted regional president Marga Prohens on X.
“I am in contact with the mayor of Calvia and with the officials in charge to learn about the evolution of the situation and those affected.
“My condolences to the family members and loved ones of the victims, my full support to the affected people and my gratitude to the firefighters and healthcare professionals for their swift response.”
The names and nationalities of the victims are currently unknown.
