THIS is the horrific moment an Algerian man stands over a Senegalese man after attacking him with a hammer in the troubled Murcia town of Torre Pacheco.
The Senegalese man is fighting for his life after footage emerged of the aftermath of the attack, as shocked onlookers filmed his attacker from across the street.
The video, captured on Avenida Juan Carlos I in the Murcia town, shows the suspect looming over the victim before Guardia Civil officers arrived and made the arrest at around 6pm on Thursday.
A second victim, of sub-Saharan origin, was also assaulted but suffered less serious injuries.
The Senegalese man is being treated at Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, where his injuries have been described as extremely serious.
The Guardia Civil, which has taken charge of the investigation, believes the attacker tried to rob both men before turning violent.
The suspect was detained within minutes and remains in custody. Neither victim has been named.
If the Senegalese victim does not survive, homicide charges will follow.
Torre Pacheco has had a troubled recent past, attracting national attention in July 2025 after a 68-year-old pensioner was attacked by three men of North African.
Far-right groups roamed the streets armed with batons targeting the town’s large migrant community, attacking North African homes and businesses.
Around 300 people were later investigated by police. The interior ministry said agitators — some of whom had travelled in from neighbouring towns — turned what began as a community response into organised racial violence.
The town of 40,000 has one of the highest concentrations of foreign nationals in Murcia, many employed in the intensive farming that defines the surrounding Campo de Cartagena plain.
