SUN-STARVED Brits in Spain queuing for a sunbed on the Costa’s packed beaches take note: there’s now an app for those river beach dips you’ve been dreaming of.
River Beaches, the popular Portuguese travel app, has officially splashed into Spain, mapping more than 100 river, lake and dam beaches across the country.
Perfect for families looking for the right facilities, groups of friends searching for somewhere to swim and unwind, adventurers chasing remote wild spots or tourists wanting to explore beyond the coastline — River Beaches has them all covered.
The free app has already been downloaded tens of thousands of times and has picked up coverage across five countries, all through good old-fashioned word of mouth (and a fair few viral TikToks).

With Spain’s entry, the database now spans over 300 spots across the Iberian Peninsula, each with real photos, hand-written descriptions, and local tips.
Filters let you search by dog-friendliness, lifeguards, Blue Flag status, or whether the water’s cold enough to shock the sangria out of you.
There’s a green streak too: half of all app revenue goes towards river beaches restoration projects in Spain and Portugal.
Next stop, apparently, is France, Germany and Italy — but for now, Spain’s secret swimming holes are having their moment in the sun.
The River Beaches app is available in the Google Play store and Apple’s App Store.
