Dolphin beach tragedy

DOZENS of dead fish, birds and a dolphin have been found on an Estepona beach.

The dolphin was discovered with nylon wrapped around its mouth and blood oozing from a fin.

Birds were also found scattered along the shore with fish hooks embedded into their bodies.

The tragic sight was stumbled upon by Estepona resident Emma James, 36, while walking along the beach, close to the Hotel AGH.

“It is a terrible waste of life, the dolphin had blood pouring out of its side, and nylon fishing tackle caught in its mouth,” explained Emma. “It was incredibly harrowing.”

“What a waste of once healthy birds and fish. These hunters are destroying the coastline.”

She believes the tragedy was caused by one particular fishing boat that she saw fishing the area a few days earlier.

“It was a massive ship anchored out at sea,” she said. “At the time, I suspected that the recent strong waves had washed up their lost catches.”

Professional photographer Emma explained that two protection officers arrived within an hour and took away the dolphin for further examinations.

She added: “This was definitely not due to natural causes.

“What a waste of once healthy birds and fish. These hunters are destroying the coastline.”
