AN illegal factory producing 65,000 packets of cigarettes a day has been smashed by the Guardia Civil in Sevilla.

The tobacco processing plant is the largest to be uncovered in Spain and 10 people have been arrested in connection.

Over thirty tonnes of processed tobacco were confiscated as well as four vehicles, firearms and €60,000 in cash.

The tobacco confiscated is estimated to be worth more than €6 million and most of the cigarette packets bore the brand ‘American Legend’.

The organisation – reportedly made up of a number of European nationals – used a farm as a front for the illegal production.
